While getting an undergraduate degree is essential for the next steps in a student’s prospective career fields, experience and practical skills could be the difference between a good resume and a great one.
“Having a master’s really does set you apart from other applicants when applying for a job,” Remmey Lohr, a graduate student in the 5-year MBA program at West Virginia Wesleyan College, said. “It makes you highly valued in a corporation!”
Wesleyan offers students a wide range of extracurricular activities and academic opportunities. One of the best opportunities a student can choose to be a part of is the MBA program. The school offers students one of two options: the 5-year MBA program or the Traditional MBA program.
The 5-year MBA program allows students who are already enrolled at West Virginia Wesleyan College to receive two degrees with just one extra year added. After students earn 60 credit hours, they are able to apply for this program and then, if accepted, can start the process after earning 75 undergraduate credit hours.
The other option offered to anyone looking for an MBA program, not just WVWC students, is the Traditional MBA program. This program is available to anyone who has received an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A unique opportunity with this program is that Wesleyan offers Graduate Assistant (GA) positions where tuition, housing, meal plan, and a stipend are provided if accepted.
But why should someone take the MBA program here at Wesleyan compared to any other school? Easy, it is the most affordable per credit in the area. Compared to other schools in West Virginia such as Shepherd University which cost $767, Fairmont State University’s is $527, University of Charleston’s $600, and West Virginia University’s $865, Wesleyan is the most affordable costing $455.
Other than cost, West Virginia Wesleyan College’s MBA program helps students get started in an internship that they will be able to pursue fully down the line.
“I started the MBA program in the spring of 2024 and as soon as I updated my resume with an expected graduation date to earn a Master’s degree, I started gaining traction in the job market,” Reese Skaggs, another 5-year MBA program student, said. “I received an internship and worked there for 2 years. Recently, I earned a full-time position with the same company to start upon graduation. Without earning my MBA here at WVWC, I would not have had these opportunities.”
His opportunity is just one of the many examples of Wesleyan students excelling in the workfield because of the MBA program this college offers. Students who have a chance to take this course should jump on the opportunity because of the affordable cost, experience, and practical skills they could gain from it.
