Heat 2 in Production

Heat, the cult classic film from 1995, has recent news of a sequel now entering production. Once again Micheal Mann will return to direct. 

Recently, the sequel to the 1995 film has been confirmed by director Micheal Mann. The film will follow the plot of its sequel novel “Heat 2”, written by Micheal Mann and Meg Gardiner. However, this sequel will not only follow the events after the original film but it will also serve as a prequel to the cult classic film. 

The plot of the novel follows Lt. Vincent Hanna trying to hunt down Chris Shiherils right after the events of the film. Now with Chris being the last member of the crew and on the run, he now must escape Los Angeles. This part of the story is set in 1995 to 1996, serving as the sequel. The story also focuses on a young Neil McCauley committing robberies with his heist crew, while a young Vincent Hanna also tries to stop a lunatic gang of home invaders, both set in 1988. 

The film is also set to feature a new cast with big names. So far, it has been confirmed that Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio will be in the film. While it is uncertain what their roles will be, It is speculated that Christan Bale will play the role of a young  Lt. Vincent Hanna. While DiCaprio will play Chris Shiherils, originally played by the late Val Kilmer.

It is also rumoured that Adam Driver and Al Pacino will also feature in the film. Driver in the role of a young Neil McCauley. While Pacino will be returning as Lt. Vincent Hanna. Although there isn’t anything confirmed for either of those to be true. 

Brayden Thompson, a long-time fan of Micheal Mann and the original Heat, was interviewed about his opinions. “It’s going to be very exciting to be able to watch a sequel to Heat in theaters”, Thompson said. “It also worries me, because the original film doesn’t need a sequel.”

With the film’s sequel set to begin filming in August of this year and the rumors of such a huge cast, It makes the film even more exciting. This will also be the newest film from Micheal Mann after Ferrari, which came out in 2023. It will be interesting to see how exactly  Micheal Mann’s directing style has changed and evolved over the last 31 years between films.
