C92 – The Scratch is one of Wesleyan’s best hidden secrets. However, with a new staff advisory and executive board change, can this hidden secret finally create a boom in the communication department?

The radio station suffered a hit last year after a fire was set near the station, causing the emergency sprinklers to turn on. This situation almost destroyed all of the equipment, causing a hold on the radio station’s production for last semester.

Now, with updated technology and a new head, things are starting to turn around for C92. Chase Gora, the programming director for the radio station said, “This semester the executive board and our advisor, Pete Galarneau, have a greater understanding of the tools we have to make the radio shows run more efficiently and to our liking. With our new audio system audacity that we are using, we are able to create our own bumpers and provide the music we want instead of whatever we have on the computer.”

This semester the station has over 10 shows including country music, christian music, rock music, pop music, caribbean hits, and even a couple of talk shows. Having a wide variety of shows with different themes that play all throughout the week allows the station to appeal to all different types of people. If you like it, they probably have it, and that is one of the greatest appeal factors for them.

Many of the djs are new this semester and are just learning how to run an efficient radio show. “Having been in radio since my freshman year and transitioning from a beginner dj to the now general manager, I always get excited to watch the new group of students discover their passion for the station,” Faith Yoho said. “I love getting to watch their individual creativity shine when planning and executing their shows.”

This is a big stepping stone for this station after not being able to produce any shows for a whole semester. The new djs will allow this program to continue to build and grow as they look to grow the class size. As for the change in executive board, having a team that knows the system will allow the younger djs to be mentored so they can also teach the future generations of djs. With the fresh breath of enthusiasm in the station, this may be what C92 – The Scratch needed to get out of being a hidden gem.
