The Great Divide

When Noah Kahan released his latest single “The Great Divide” early this year, fans knew this would be an unexpected addition to his already amazing collection of songs.

This song is the first of many that are a part of his new album The Great Divide which will be released in April of 2026. If this song is just the beginning of what is to come, the fans can expect an unforgettable new album from Noah Kahan.

Shortly after releasing his new song, Kahan announced he was going on tour. With so many people liking this song in a short amount of time, it wasn’t a question of if the tour would sell out but how fast it would be sold out. The answer: not long at all.

When interviewing Hannah Stemple about Noah Kahan and his concert announcement, she stated, “I was ECSTATIC!! I immediately called my best friend to plan to get tickets. I know his tour will be amazing and I cannot wait to go!”

“The Great Divide” is the perfect example of what it means to love someone from a distance, something that everyone has to go through at one point or another in their life. It is a song that relates to regret, misunderstanding, and mental health struggles.

The verses of the song are the more emotional parts of the song. They pull the listener in and transfer them to a moment in time with the person they miss. The couple of lines that make up the verses are the memories that Noah Kahan uses to hold on to that person he no longer has. It does the same for the listener, taking them to the memories that they will hold onto forever.

The pre-chorus brings it back into more of Kahan’s thoughts and what he is feeling. It builds up to the chorus, and makes the listener connect more with themselves about their own situation that resembles the one Noah Kahan is illustrating in his song.

Then the chorus shocks everyone. It repeats the words “I hope” and is followed by what Kahan hopes for the person he is missing. In the middle of the grief, pain, and regret, all he wants is the best for what he has lost. It hurts but he understands he isn’t what that person needs anymore so if he can’t be there he only wishes that person the best. This touches the audience and paints a new perspective that we don’t get from many songs or artists these days. Rather than talking about how he wants bad things to happen, he shows that even though he can’t be the good in their life he still wishes there is good in their life.

Remmey Lohr said, “I love how the song has almost a sad yet happy meaning at the same time. It talks about wanting what is best for someone even though you’ve grown apart. Sometimes that happens out of our control because life gets in the way, and it’s no one’s fault.”

“The Great Divide” is a time-traveling song that brings listeners back to a place of remembrance and understanding for the times that are lost. Noah Kahan uses this song to say that not all loss is bad, and all we can do is wish good for those that are gone.
