After weeks filled with tests, projects, and extracurricular activities, the break offers a much-needed chance to relax, reconnect with family, and recharge before the final push toward winter.
For many, Thanksgiving break means heading home for the first time since the school year began. Some look forward to family traditions watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, helping prepare a favorite dish, or cheering on their favorite football teams. Devin Malone is a senior here at West Virginia Wesleyan and an offensive lineman for the Bobcat football team. “I drove 3 hours to go to school and play football here, so I am super excited to go back home and see family and friends,” Devin Malone, a Senior at West Virginia Wesleyan, said.
Others simply welcome the slower pace that comes with a long weekend free from academic deadlines; WVWC’s Thanksgiving Break starts from November 21st to November 30th. “I think it’s at a perfect time as it’s a couple days after the football season ends.” Malone explained. For most fall sport athletes, this will be a very refreshing and satisfying break as most of their long seasons will either be done or just about.
According to the WVWC academic calendar, residence halls are closed during Thanksgiving Break and Winter break ,which means that not only are the residence halls closed, but meals won’t be served by the Cafeteria as well .
If a student wants to stay during the breaks, they must submit an Extended Stay Request Form. Once the school accepts your request, the student will be charged the daily room rate which right now is 25 dollars. For more detailed information on this topic, look at the Res-Hall Accommodations and Policies agreement which can be found on the WVWC website.
With the semester ending at Winter Break, it gives students time to reflect on their progress and prepare for a fresh start in the new year.Winter break also offers a unique opportunity for students to pursue personal goals. Some take on seasonal jobs to earn extra money, while others volunteer, travel, or spend time catching up on hobbies neglected during the school year. For college students, it’s often a time to reconnect with high school friends or begin planning for internships and next semester’s courses.
As Thanksgiving approaches, the excitement is easy to feel on campus. The talk of upcoming travel plans blends with the blissful state of rest, which means a strong finish to a long semester.
