Danica Propst, the current Editor in Chief of The Pharos, is graduating this May, and is passing the baton.
Danica is a communication major and broadcasting minor. She has been taking Newspaper since the Fall of 2022, when she came in as a freshman. Throughout her time on the paper, Dancia has written and published several articles for The Pharos. She has served as a writer, assistant editor, and now, editor in chief.
“I love being able to write what I’m passionate about, and to contribute to something that preserves our schools’ history,” Propst said.
Danica set out to improve the newspaper and increase its campus visibility when she took up the mantle of editor in chief. Her biggest goal was to bring the paper back to print, a practice that was stopped during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and she was able to achieve this goal. The Pharos has now been in print since Fall 2024.
“I wanted to bring it back into print to increase its visibility on campus, and to be able to give those who take the class something tangible they can take with them,” Propst shared.
Danica will be handing the role of editor in chief to incoming senior Haley Lane, upon her graduation. Lane currently serves as assistant editor, and runs the newspaper’s Instagram.
“Haley will bring a lot of fresh ideas to the paper and find ways to improve it. I’m excited to see what she does,” Propst said.
Apart from newspapers, Danica has been heavily involved on campus. She is a sister of Alpha Delta Pi, a Service Scholar, a former member of Student Senate, a Writing Center tutor, as well as the tutor for the communication department.
Upon graduation, she will be attending Penn State Dickinson School of Law, in hopes to practice child advocacy and family law.
As one last message to the campus, Danica shared, “If you love to write and are interested in becoming a bit more involved on campus, then Newspaper is the place for you. Thanks to all of the readers on campus who value The Pharos and its goal of keeping WVWC informed.”
We want to thank Danica for all of her hard work. She will be missed, but we are looking forward to seeing all of the incredible things she does in the future.
