There are athletes all over the United States that transfer every year to a different college to play sports. West Virginia Wesleyan has transfer students every year too.
While many may enter for sports, they quickly develop other reasons to love West Virginia Wesleyan. Transfer student, Jerell Jean Baptiste is from a NAIA school called Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. Baptiste stated, “I made the decision to transfer to have a better opportunity to play basketball as well as having a better opportunity to get my degree…Since coming here to WVWC, I ‘ve found joy in playing and being a student as well!” Although sports may be the major reason for athletes’ transfer it is not the only reason athletes’ transfer. Choosing a school that has good academic program is important to many athletes. WVWC offers many degrees to help students succeed. There are multiple undergraduate majors and some graduate programs for students to explore. These programs are appealing to athletes when transferring to schools.
West Virginia Wesleyan makes those transferring students feel welcomed. Another transfer student, Lamont Jones, is from Allegany College in Maryland. He transferred to WVWC to play basketball. Jones stated, “I made the decision to transfer because I wanted to continue my basketball career, I chose WVWC because it felt like a good fit academically and athletically.” Also, “Since coming here, I’ve really enjoyed it. There’s more to do on campus, and I’ve’ been having a lot more fun. Honestly, I didn’t start going out and enjoying myself until I got here, so overall, it’s been a better experience for me here at WVWC.”
There is always plenty to do at WVWC besides playing sports. WVWC holds many events to help students come together. Events range from homecoming and performing arts to intramural sports games. WVWC hosts exciting social events for students to get together to enjoy. These events are Trivia Tuesday, Casino Night, Karaoke Night and Bingo Night. These events help students engage with other students outside of their circle. Students can mingle with other students who come from different places and have different ethnic backgrounds. WVWC has a diverse group of students who are from all over the world. WVWC provides a safe and fun environment for students to be able to engage with one another. Community engagement is the best at WVWC!
Our college welcomes transfer students and those who play sports help make our athletic teams strive. Athletes all over the United States will continue to transfer colleges to play sports. West Virginia Wesleyan will continue to welcome them!
