One Call

The West Virginia Wesleyan College Department of Theatre and Dance is currently filming a short film titled One Call.

Directed By Jason Coping-Smith, Jay, this short film is his imagination coming to life. Jay is directing this movie as his senior capstone for the theatre department.

When asked what inspired him to create this film he replied “I would say that what inspired me to make this film was coping with change in my life. Specifically graduating but moving on in general is hard to do sometimes. That hardship inspired me to write a film about it.” He later went on to say, “Having a random and unexpected life I wanted to portray that in the film as thoroughly as possible.”

Why is there a movie being filmed? Every Theatre major must produce, perform, direct, etc. some form of senior capstone to graduate. Jay, using his love for film and knowledge of the subject, decided to direct a short film of his own.

The film is being made entirely by students of West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Department of Theatre and Dance. The crew consists of: Elijah Dickey (Theatre: Acting/ Directing major) as the head camera operator, Leigh Rice (Theatre: Acting/ Directing major) as the production assistant, Rhyan Sebring (Theatre: Acting/ Directing major) as the lead sound operator, Sidney Stewart (Musical Theatre major) as the assistant director, and of course directed by Jay who is a technical theatre student.

The film is being filmed at the fraternity Alpha Sigma Phi house.

The film is starring Adrian Legg (Musical Theatre major) as the main character, James. John Spellman (Musical Theatre major) is the best friend to James, DJ. Ashton Nardella (Musical Theatre major) is a close friend to James, Midas. And Ellery Brown (Theatre: Acting/ Directing major) as Faith.

Our main character, James, gets some unexpected bad news, and this film follows him through how he copes with how his plans for the evening got turned on their head right before his eyes with nothing he can do to change it.  Throughout this film, his friends Midas and DJ check on James to see if he is alright and why he is acting weird. James just wanted the night to go “perfect.” James’ night goes every way except for perfect.

The movie wrapped on filming on the 21st of February, and is now in the stages of editing.
