West Virginia Wesleyan College hosts a campus-wide Harvest Party organized by the sororities to spark interest in Greek life among female students. This festive event serves as an introduction to the values, traditions, and sisterhood that Greek life offers at Wesleyan.
On December 4th at 6 pm all four of Wesleyan’s sororities will open their doors for potential new members to come out and see what Wesleyan greek life has to offer. Alpha Xi Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Alpha Gamma Delta are the four sororities that will participate, each offering insight into their traditions, activities, and their philanthropies. This evening is an important step in the recruitment process, giving potential new members a chance to understand what makes each chapter unique and decide if sorority life is the right fit for them.
This event allows each sorority to share its core values with potential new members. Every sorority upholds a unique set of guiding principles; for example, Alpha Xi Delta emphasizes courage, graciousness, and peace. By learning about these values, potential new members can determine which sorority aligns best with their own beliefs and where they might feel the most at home.
Faith Yoho, a sister of Alpha Delta Pi says, “I’m excited to see who all are interested in Greek life. Each organization is incredible, so I’m very hopeful the PNMs see that and are able to run home to their new sisters”.
Beyond the fun and festivities, the Harvest Party fosters an atmosphere of inclusivity and connection. Sororities at Wesleyan work to ensure that Greek life remains an open, supportive environment where everyone can find their place. Events like these demonstrate how Greek life is more than just social gatherings—it’s about building meaningful relationships, developing leadership skills, and giving back to the community.
Yoho says, “My advice to potential new members is to be yourself, as cliche as it sounds. We want to get to know you, not who you think we want you to be. Go into harvest party, and recruitment with an open mind. You’ll feel where you are supposed to be”.
Whether students are already familiar with Greek life or attending their first sorority event, the Harvest Party provides a low-pressure opportunity to explore and engage as part of a larger community. This event also serves as a reminder that joining a sorority isn’t just about wearing letters—it’s about becoming part of a lifelong sisterhood that supports personal growth and celebrates shared achievements.
