The Men’s and Women’s golf teams have just finished their fall semester season and they will be reflecting on the work and practice needed to close out the 2024-2025 season in the spring.
This season the West Virginia Wesleyan Men’s team had five tournaments that were played over a span of five weeks. Their first tournament at Edgewood Country Club in Charleston, West Virginia ended with a top 15 with two players receiving a top ten in the tournament as individuals. Another standout was with the conference and their final tournament which was located at Glade Springs Golf Club in Daniels, West Virginia where the team missed the third day cut by one stroke. The Men’s team was near the cut line and came close to making it but came up just a little short against Glenville State.
In the Women’s team season, they were able to play four tournaments in a span of five weeks with a one week break before conference. Throughout their season they were able to receive multiple top fives and an all around good beginning for the 2024-2025 season. Another standout was an individual win by Sydney Baird who won her first collegiate golf tournament at the Belmont Hills tournament that was hosted by West Liberty.
After this season both teams have found their strengths and weaknesses and are strategizing a plan to become more successful in the next semester with more tournaments to come. After an interview with Coach Cami Roberts, she said, “As a team we need to keep working hard on doing the best we can in tough tournaments and keep working hard on the mental game.” With this being said, the team has a lot of room to work on but have a good idea on the mistakes that are made and what will be done to figure them out and play better. Both teams are working on winning a tournament as a team and hopefully coming home with a win in the Spring Conference tournament which is still working on determining a location.
The team will be working hard for the next three to four months until the season starts back up next year. They will continue to find the holes in their games and do their best to win big in the spring. With a season halfway done for a couple of seniors, they will try to bring the teams together to finish strong and end in a successful fashion to round out their career at West Virginia Wesleyan.
