The dry and sunny weather in West Virginia has finally made a positive change in the past couple of weeks.
The weather in West Virginia this summer has been very sunny and very hot over the past couple months, but what does that have to do with it affecting the state? Having so much heat without rain is what makes the biggest difference for the people living and the land around. Having only so much rain this summer has allowed the state to go into a drought and have to have some people to watch their water intake and to not water their lawns.
Without any storms this summer it has also allowed for peoples lawns to become dried out, golf courses to be dried out, trees starting to shed their leaves early and plenty of people going to the pool everyday. The rain in West Virginia plays such a big impact on the land and nature that surrounds the state. Sunshine is always important to keep the grass growing and staying green but without water it gives the land no chance to survive and grow.
After months of no rain, people in West Virginia are able to already see the difference in scenery and the colors coming back to life. Davis Haynes, a student at West Virginia Wesleyan College, says that, “Over the summer I worked at the golf course and we wouldn’t be able to cut as much since the grass would die if we cut it too low with the little amount of rain we received.” The weather has definitely played a big role in many people’s lives, especially those that have to work on the land outside and nature that surrounds it.
The weather after summer has finally switched and turned for the better as West Virginia received a big load of rainfall over the past couple weeks. Due to the hurricane that hit the East Coast, the rain was able to make its way over and give the state what it’s been looking for for a while. The rain has already accumulated more than the rainfall all summer. The weather has changed for the better in West Virginia, but it is not the best for people that were in the hurricane. “Everything is already starting to look a lot better after last week with all the rain,” Haynes says. After all the rain, everyone and everything has a chance to go back to the way it was and to be free of the drought.
