Is This Mic On? Exploring Changes Coming to WVWC’s Radio Station and Newspaper

By: Faith Yoho

There are several changes coming to WVWC’s radio station, C92 FM, and its Newspaper, The Pharos.

Editor in Chief of The Pharos, Danica Propst, and C92 FM’s General Manager, Faith Yoho are both taking steps to make their respective forms of broadcasting more accessible to the campus and community. They have both assembled strong executive boards* to assist them in bringing these changes forward. Both teams are hopeful that implementing these changes will increase engagement for both C92 FM and The Pharos respectively.

My name is Faith Yoho, and I am the General Manager of C92 FM, a junior Communication major, as well as a student in the 5-Year MBA Program. I have previously served as the Assistant General Manager, as well as a DJ for the station. During my appointment as General Manager, I began to make plans to gain more listeners and DJs. This class is truly a blast and we have incredibly dedicated DJs. Updating the station and increasing advertisement of shows will hopefully expose the radio station to a new audience. Notable changes to the radio station include more activity on social media, email reminders for shows, and posters to be hung around campus.

I also serve as President of Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society. I often attribute this position as my inspiration behind revamping the radio station. I think being in two high positions within the Comm Department has gifted me the motivation to begin to work towards making improvements both for the radio station and the department. Working so closely with Danica has been a dream, because we have both been discussing this plan since we received our respective assistant positions. It’s great to be so in sync with someone and be on the same page about leaving the department better than we found it.

Danica Propst, Editor in Chief of The Pharos, is a senior Communication major, as well as the Vice President of Lambda Pi Eta. She has previously served as Assistant Editor and as a writer for the paper. “I’ve been a part of the newspaper since my first semester at school, this is my 5th semester, and I wanted to leave the department better than I found it, that’s what everyone should want to do,” Propst said.

Some notable changes to The Pharos include printed copies of the paper, a more accessible, user-friendly website, and shareable instagram posts for each story. “These changes are important because both the radio station and newspaper are student-led programs, and other students should be able to recognize the hard work of those in the class. Increasing the view of the programs will encourage the performance and growth of current and future students,” Propst said. Propst also encourages students to look for Comm 138 and 139 when scheduling classes.
