Big Games and Big Games

There are plenty of sports events and on campus activities that are coming to West Virginia Wesleyan College this year.

Starting with athletics, there have been many returners for all different types of sports this year. Many athletes come from within the state of West Virginia but there are some that come from out of state. One athlete that stands out is Remmey Lohr who is on the Women’s Golf Team and the Dance Team.

This year both of those sports have a pretty eventful schedule in which anybody is welcome to cheer on the lady bobcats. “Playing on both teams has allowed me to do what I love to do while having the ability to learn new things within my major for my future,” Lohr says. Having the ability to play multiple sports gives athletes a chance to keep being an athlete and show off their talents. The WVWC Dance team is set to cheer and dance at every home football game that the Bobcats will have which is October 12th and 26th and November 9th and 16th. The Dance team also “qualified for the NDA College Nationals which will be performed on April 11th-13th 2025,” Lohr says.

The women’s golf team also has some upcoming events that will be played. Since both tournaments that are remaining will be played in West Virginia, the travel distance will not be far for the Lady Bobcats as well as anyone that is interested in going to cheer on the team. The next tournaments will be “September 22nd-24th at The Raven in Snowshoe and October 6th-9th at Glade Springs Resort for the Mountain East Conference Championship,” Lohr says. The team has a off week this week to prepare for their upcoming tournaments and to try to be able to bring home a first place finish to Buckhannon.

Another event that came to West Virginia Wesleyan this month was the Campus Wide Rock Hunt. This yearly event took place on September 19th, 2024 which is a great chance for students to be able to find rocks and have a chance at winning a range of different prices. Also on September 20th, 2024, Bobcat Entertainment hosted the yearly Grocer Bingo. If you enjoyed Big Bingo then Grocery Bingo allowed students to be able to have the chance at winning various different groceries which could be useful for anyone in need of good snacks or food. The Center for Community Engagement and WE LEAD Poverty Reduction team is also hosting the yearly Peanut Butter Drive from September 30, 2024 to October 14, 2024 so go make sure to donate to help the community out.
