Are you a current Wesleyan student looking for fun activities to do in the spring?
The spring semester can bring a lot of stress to college students, so it is important to find a balance between studying and enjoying life. Getting away from campus can make the semester more enjoyable, but what is there to do on a college student’s budget?
While Buckhannon is a small town, there are so many cheap or even free activities that students might not know about. One of the most attractive day trips for students is to spend the day at Audra State Park. This beautiful wooded area is the perfect place to hike, picnic, and even swim in the Middle Fork River. Audra is a 25-minute drive from Wesleyan, with beautiful roads and scenery along the way. This is the perfect way for students to spend the day together and enjoy the outdoors!
Another great option is to take a trip to the West Virginia State Wildlife Center. Students can walk around this zoological park in French Creek, which is a 21-minute drive from campus. Find some friends and enjoy the 1.25-mile walk while being able to see the beautiful wildlife. After the walk, you can stop by the gift shop!
If you are looking for something to do indoors, don’t miss out on the multiple fun activities around town. Students love to spend time at Woody’s Bowling Center, especially because it is just 4 minutes away. Not only is there cheap bowling, but students can also play pool and arcade games! It is a great hangout spot if you are looking for a fun way to spend an evening.
Students can also go to Skateland and have a great time roller skating! Skateland also offers snacks and a DJ/karaoke and is only 5 minutes from campus!
One last option is to visit Upshur Cinema 6 and catch a movie with your friends. The movie theater is 7 minutes from campus and stays up to date on the newest movies that have been released. Students love to grab some popcorn and enjoy a great film together.
To really understand the best days that college students have here at Wesleyan, Remmey Lohr gave her input as to what her favorite activities are. “Some of my favorite activities to do in the spring when I have free time are going on walks around campus with my friends, spending Friday evenings at Free Movie Friday, and sharing a good conversation and coffee/hot chocolate at Stone Tower!”. Lohr adds that “both West Virginia Wesleyan College and Buckhannon as a whole are single-handedly the most comforting places to share a great time with the people you care about or even when you want to prioritize time for yourself!”
While Buckhannon is a small town, it is full of fun and beauty!
