As the 2023-2024 winter sports season draws to a close, the spotlight falls on the remarkable journey of the men’s and women’s basketball teams at our college.

The men’s basketball team concluded their season with a challenging 2-26 record. Reflecting on the season, Jalen Canada, a key player on the team, shared insights into their performance.

“In order for us to improve next year, we need to foster greater teamwork and trust among ourselves,” Canada emphasized. “Aligning with Coach Derek Sloan’s strategies and principles will be pivotal in our future success.”

Canada fondly recalled memorable moments from the season, including bonding experiences during road trips and the exhilaration of securing their first victory. These moments, he noted, strengthened team chemistry and underscored the potential for growth.

Heading the men’s basketball team, Coach Derek Sloan, although unavailable for comment, is expected to echo the sentiment of resilience and determination exhibited by the team throughout the season.

On the women’s front, the basketball team showcased a commendable performance with a 9-16 record. Sydney Biard, a standout freshman, contributed significantly to the team’s success.

Biard attributed their mid-season winning streak to a collective effort characterized by intensified play and resilience. Looking ahead, she emphasized the need for sustained intensity and toughness throughout each game.

Among the highlights of the women’s basketball season was their qualification for the MEC tournament, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Biard also cherished the camaraderie and jubilation shared during victories and upsets.

As both teams reflect on their respective seasons, the focus now shifts to offseason training and team bonding. With a shared commitment to improvement and unity, the Bobcats basketball program gears up for the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead.
