WVWC Annie Merner Pfeiffer Library Staff and Online Resources Here to Help WVWC Students

By: Sarah McCall

WVWC students have full access to the library resources and its staff. Many of the students on campus do not know how to access these resources and use them to their full potential.

The Annie Merner Pfeiffer offers many things from a physical space, to online databases, a vast array of scholarly sources, and much more. These all provide West Virginia Wesleyan Students with all the resources they need to succeed. No matter your discipline of study the library’s website has resources to help you.

Besides the library having online resources to help students it has physical spaces to help students succeed. At the AMP library, they have hudl rooms which are quiet areas to study individually or even work on a group project together. They also have tables to study at as well. Along with the physical space, the best thing that the library can offer is the knowledgeable librarians. They are always available to help you with anything.

According to the librarian Beth Rogers, “Students can use the Request Research Appointment form on the library website (https://amplibrary.wvwc.edu/libraryhome) to request time to work with a librarian one-on-one to get help with a specific research assignment.  Students are also welcome to stop by the library and ask for walk-in research help; one of our professional librarians is usually available from 8am-6pm Monday-Friday to offer assistance”

There are many people who struggle with using the library and do not know how to use it for them to succeed. “students are not fully aware of what the library offers and how using the library’s resources can help them be more successful as students.  We’re constantly surrounded by information, but not all information sources are equally appropriate for academic work.  Google is a great tool, but it won’t also be able to connect you to the kinds of resources that professors expect students to use”

The library offers many resources, “One of my personal favorites is our institutional access to the New York Times. By using the library, students can sign up for a free New York Times account, which not only allows access to current news articles but also to the entire New York Times backfile” says Rodgers.

Our library’s website is a tool that has many academic resources to help students along with many knowledgeable librarians who are willing to help any student. Google searches can only go so far when it comes to college-level academia.
