New Year, New Shop: Buckhannon Donut Shop Gets a Rebranding

By: Joelle Lalla

Buckhannon’s beloved Donut Shop closed down at the end of last year after being open for decades. It was rumored that the shop had no plans of reopening once closed.

The Donut Shop has been around since 1978 and has been a key part of the town’s community. The shop is known for its 24-hour service, friendly atmosphere, pepperoni rolls, breakfast options, and of course its donuts and danishes. With the Donut Shop being the only donut shop in the town and currently still is, it is understandable how upset this news made the locals. According to an article from WDTV, they spoke with a previous employee about the shop closing. The employee had nothing to say specifically as to why the shop was closing down.

The town was deeply saddened by the sudden announcement. Coming into the new year, it was announced that the shop had been bought by the Par mar Store chain. This same company also operates six other local businesses in the Buckhannon area. “When they learned that the Donut Shop had plans of closing its business, they knew they had to do something about it,” says Par Mar according to WV News.

The closing of the Donut Shop did not just stop at upsetting locals in the town, but also the college students at the nearby institution. Although Buckhannon is a small town, it has lots of delicacies for not only community members to enjoy but also the students. Many students were sad to hear the news especially because of it being convenient for a late-night sweet treat during a study break or even on the weekends.

The Company made this executive decision after seeing the sentimental value the people of the town had for the shop, therefore making it that much more important for them to keep it open. Minus minimal changes to the shop, the new owner plans to keep everything original with the shop from the design to its endless donuts and pepperoni rolls.

The shop has now been reopened as of early February, functioning better than ever before. Customers not only still have the drive-through option, but the shop is also reopening the inside dining area for customers to enjoy their delicious treats inside again. There is a plan to have a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting planned to commemorate the rebranding of the shop in the next few months.

You can find the new and improved Donut Spot at 51 N Locust St in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
