Campus Life at WVWC Hiring New Staff

As the spring semester continues, the campus life office here at WVWC is hiring students interested in being a Resident Assistant or Resident Director on campus.

Every spring semester here at WVWC, the campus life office undergoes hiring new Resident Assistants (RAs) and Resident Directors (RDs) here on campus for the next school year. This semester, the deadline for RA applications is March 3rd, 2023. Unfortunately, the applications for RDs have already passed. Each dorm on campus has an RD and multiple RAs to keep the building a safe and happy environment for the students at WVWC. There isn’t an exact number of people who are hired each school year.

As an RD, you would create programs for your residents and the community, go on duty (checking on each building and coming to aid if a situation arises), keep the building organized (maintain all paperwork), and become a leader not just to residents in the building, but your RAs in the building as well, and more. For the role of an RA, you will also go on duty (going around the building and observing), be a role model and leader for your peers on campus and in the community, and also do engaging programs for those in the building and in the community.

For students interested in doing a work-study on campus, it’s a perfect opportunity. It’s the highest-paying work-study on campus, but it is also an opportunity for students to be leaders on campus, have responsibilities, and be a part of a group that will support you endlessly. It’s also an opportunity to meet new people and make connections with people you never would have thought you would.

To get more information about these positions, email them at the campus life office. Upon obtaining the application form, you must have a cover letter, a letter of recommendation, and a personality test to match you to people you’ll work well with if you are chosen for the position.

Upon submitting everything you need, you will then be called for an interview. After the interview, you will be contacted on the status of your hiring.

When asked about hiring new employees for the next school year, the Dean of students and the director of campus life, Alisa Lively, responded, “The best part of that, is that we are engaging new students who want to build their leadership skills…” Lively also said, “We just want to instill in those people–the new interviewees, and the ones we hire–that their primary goal is to be a community developer.”

RDs and RAs have one of the hardest work-study jobs here on campus. From being a student and having many assignments to do, to being an employee and having to figure out how to balance it all out. Sometimes it puts you into tough positions since you’re an authority figure to your peers. But, the job is crucial to the well-being of others, and yours. If you really want to be an RD or an RA, commit to it, but the rewards are so much more significant for you in the long run.
