And Then There Were Three: Local Sheetz Closed for Remodel

Buckhannon’s local Sheetz is temporarily closed down for a remodel. According to the administration, there are plans for the local gas station to reopen this summer in August 2023.

The move comes immediately after the Sheetz in nearby Weston had just reopened after spending the winter months closed for the same renovations.

Sheetz is becoming a more popular gas station as it is more than your typical traditional gas station. Sheetz operates throughout 500 different locations including Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. Sheetz was first established in 1952 as a family-owned business and it is still up-keeping that appeal today. The gas station is known for its 24-hour service, friendly atmosphere, and overall convenience.

The remodel will include a drive-thru, a restaurant-style experience, a self-service kiosk, and seating both inside and outside. Public Relations Manager Nick Ruffner states that the new store will be approximately 6,000 square feet and include 10 fuel dispensers. During the temporary closing, Sheetz will offer current employers other temporary jobs present within the company. It was important to the manager that employees were not without work during the remodel.

Although the town is devastated to hear that its beloved Sheetz is closing for the next couple of months, it did indeed upset locals in the town, as well as the college students at Wesleyan.  Hope, a senior here at West Virginia Wesleyan College gives us her thoughts about how she feels about the news of Sheetz ‘remodel.’

“It is extremely upsetting that Sheetz is closing,” she said. “It was super convenient with Sheetz being so close to campus. The made-to-order food was great when I was tired of the regular fast food options around campus.

“With the new remodel, the thing I am looking forward to the most is simply sheets being back open again. I also heard that they will be adding indoor seating which will be good for a cold day when you just want to enjoy your food while it’s hot inside the Sheetz.”

You can find the new and improved Sheetz at 341 N Locust St in Buckhannon, West Virginia this summer in August.
