West Virginia Wesleyan Women’s Basketball Season

By: Jordan Dumornay

College Basketball is starting up real soon, especially for the West Virginia Wesleyan women’s basketball team.

This season for 2022-23 the women’s basketball team for West Virginia Wesleyan is on its way. The women’s basketball team has been working hard to accomplish many goals for this season. West Virginia  Wesleyan has released their schedule for this upcoming season. Wesleyan will have 12 home games this season and will be facing off their opponent in the Rockefeller Center.

Wesleyan will have their first game on November 11th which will be a non conference game against Kentucky State. The Women’s basketball team will also be playing Marshall University on November 15 and will have their first home game facing off against Fairmont State on November 22.

The Women’s basketball team plans to make some adjustments from last year and bring that into this year’s season. Wesleyan has brought in some new freshman players that the team feels like can make a big impact on this year’s season. Having more players come in will be a great opportunity for them to change the culture from last year’s season and focus on this season to win and compete more.

West Virginia Wesleyan basketball is a great opportunity for students on campus as well. Women’s basketball is great for students to come out and support our Lady Bobcats for a successful season. Not only is this great for the players but this is great for students to come out and bond with each other. It’s free to get into all of the home games so this is also open to the Buckhannon community as well.

There will be a lot of great opportunities for the Lady Bobcats with this being a new season for them. Brett Vincent was named head coach for West Virginia Wesleyan’s Women’s basketball team on May 17 2021. Vincent has had great success with being a head coach not only at Wesleyan but at other big time schools as well.

After interviewing Courtney Wilfong, A student athlete who plays on the Women’s basketball team. She talked about this upcoming season and with this being her Senior year for this season she feels this year will be a great year for the Lady bobcats.

“ I feel like this season is going to be great and I’m looking forward to it. I feel like we all have prepared well for this season with workouts and practice and it all will pay off this season. I’m really excited to see how me and my teammates grow this season. Last year’s season was a little rough for us but this year we plan to execute in every game this season.”
