As I see future prospective students visiting Wesleyan throughout the year, I think back to the first time I came on campus. I remember how big of an impact the people, town, professors, and coaches made on me.

Making the choice of where you will attend college is a huge decision and it’s best to prepare yourself for it. It is important to create a pros and cons list of your potential schools and make a ranking system on which college you are favoring. Once you start finding which school you favor more, it’s important to get on the campus. On campus tours are offered at every school, as they like for you to get a feel of what it would be like if you were a student on that school’s campus. When I visited West Virginia Wesleyan College, I knew it was the school for me. People say that when you visit the school that is right for you, you will know. I am from a big city, yet I felt so at home in this small town of Buckhannon. It is odd how such diverse places in the country can somehow make you feel at home. When arriving on campus and driving through downtown Buckhannon, I was not sure if I would like it to be quite honest. Once I got on campus and started meeting faculty, staff, professors, coaches, and many citizens of Buckhannon, I knew this was the college I wanted to attend.
Many thoughts and questions come to mind when students are trying to make a decision on where they want to spend their years of college. Big school, small school, big city, or small city plays a significant role in this process.
Alumna Ciana Bowen chose Wesleyan because “I wanted to go somewhere I could play softball and excel in nursing school.” Bowen mentioned visiting many schools during her journey of college searching, but nowhere let her play college softball and be enrolled in nursing school due to the high demand of time.
“I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to play ball at the collegiate level, as well as receive my bachelors in nursing,” added Bowen, who is now a registered nurse at the WVU Children’s Hospital and would love to give back to the WVWC Alumni.
