This year at Wesleyan, there is a new strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department. His name is Connor Olson, he graduated with a science degree in coaching and sports education from West Virginia University. The student athletes here at Wesleyan are all agreeing on one thing, the improvement in the strength training programs.
After speaking to different teams such as softball, football, and lacrosse, there are similarities in the opinions of the new strength and conditioning coach. A member on the lacrosse team, Gabrielle Holstein, says that she appreciates the improvement in detail for the teams individually. There are many students who agree with her, appreciating how Coach Olson is thorough with the workouts that are made for all of the different teams. The improvement in specific targeted workouts for different teams are essential to assist in building up the right kind of strength and to be conditioned properly for that sport. Members of the softball team are also commenting on improvement that they see in their strength when it comes to building up during the programs as well. The comments of some of these teams are that they are happy with the support and instruction that is given by Coach Olson, and they are learning how to not only use these workouts during team practices, but now outside individual work as well.
Many of the athletes here at Wesleyan also comment on how they appreciate the accommodations for those who have injuries and having alternative workouts ready. Coming from injured athletes, they are thrilled to be able to have other workouts ready so that they can continue strengthening themselves in a safe way. Olson says that he tries to keep the workouts as similar as he can while accommodating to the injured players so that they are keeping up with the team. Taking over this many teams is hard for any coach to do, but Coach Olson has been doing a great job this past semester. The athletes here at Wesleyan are excited to continue through this program through the winter and working with Coach Olson.
