Bobcat Football Team Having a Rough Season

By: Jon Walker

The Bobcat Football team this year came out of training camp with a strong start. Coming off an 0-5 season battling with COVID, there was a lot of room for improvement that happened throughout the breaks.

There were a lot of new faces on both sides of the football, especially a new Head Coach and two young coordinators. The Bobcats were predicted to have a winnable season with all the returners and talent they had coming back this season.

Freshman QB Nate Payne led the Bobcats on offense, going 69/134 for 703 yards on the season. Senior Kobe Vinegar led the defense in tackles at Linebacker direction of Coach Marcus Spearman.

Vinegar did not mince words about the team this season. “They were young and not ready.” It’s very unfortunate that the Bobcats had an 0-11 season this year. The last 4 years the Bobcats have managed a record of 2-37 under three head coaches. Coach Dewayne Martin has goals and plans to turn this program around and move it in the right direction.

The coaching staff has done a great job preparing the team every week and understanding what the team needs to work and focus on. The 2022 recruiting class (“2o2cats”) coming in should be something to watch out for here in the next couple of months.

In addition to the coaching staff the Bobcats added two new coaches this year Leroy Willson RB/TE and Ethan Jefferson Linebackers. Two first year coaches who impacted the team a lot by motivation and energy when needed. These two coaches also were a big asset to the players because they oversaw all equipment.
