“Jump” is a big weekend for Greek Life at Wesleyan. For the first time since Spring of 2020 “Jump” took place. Jump is a Greek Life event where students who have been invited to join a fraternity or sorority run down the middle of the quad and embrace their organization at the end.
Jump is a long-standing tradition that has been going on for many years. It is one of Greek Life’s biggest events for each semester. Jump is something that all five fraternities and all four sororities look forward to each year.
However, with the global pandemic hitting in the spring semester of 2020, this tradition had to be put on hold. In the fall of 2020, there was no in person instruction for Wesleyan and all classes were held virtually with most people living at home. With the global pandemic still an issue, there was no Jump in the Spring 2021 semester either. Even with in-person learning there was a decision that was made that at the time Jump was not safe.
Fast forward to Fall 2021, Jump is back, and people were excited. Even with the very hot weather on Jump, there was a lot of energy in the crowd and lots of happy faces. Jump started around 1:00 on Saturday the 17th.
All five fraternities and all four sororities were represented. Many were ecstatic to get the Jump festivities started and celebrate their respective organization’s new members. Each fraternity and sorority had multiple members participate in Jump. Lots of new members, and old members who were not able to participate in past Jumps were able to participate in this years.
One of the best moments of Jump came from the Chi Phi fraternity. Spring 2020 initiate, Joey Huxley, brought his girlfriend’s dog, Sosa, along with him as he ran towards his fellow brothers. Sosa ran close behind Huxley down the path and joined the three Chi Phi shirted ladies (pictured below) up on top of the steps of Doney Hall as Huxley embraced his fellow brothers below. That was a cool experience for everyone involved, especially for the Chi Phi brothers, Huxley, and his girlfriend, Isabella Ruble, one of Chi Phi’s shirted ladies, a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and Sosa’s owner.
