Hurricane Ida Worst Storm to Hit New Orleans Since Katrina

Hurricane Ida wiped through New Orleans and destroys many homes, leaving them without power. Also raising many questions about how prepared companies in the cities were.

A couple weeks ago Hurricane Ida went through New Orleans and a couple of surrounding cities and the damage it caused was substantial. It has also been said that Hurricane Ida’s damage could top $95 million. Not only that, it caused 112 fatalities, according to CNBC News reports.

Hurricane Ida has left thousands without power; the powerful winds obliterated the state of Louisiana electrical grid and even a week later they were still without power. Some residents are even going to sue the state’s power company because they said they failed to prepare for the severity of Hurricane Ida and the damage it was going to cause. It is estimated that it will take six to seven weeks to restore power in Louisiana, CNBC News also reports.

It was reported by KATC News that Entergy, the power company in the New Orleans area, has said that “Hurricane Ida caused more damage to Louisiana’s distribution system than Hurricanes Katrina, Delta and Zeta combined”

With winds getting up to 150 mph, Hurricane Ida wiped off roofs of several buildings, trapped several drivers in their cars and has caused a lot of debris to be stuck on buildings and fly off when the wind blows, damaging cars and buildings, CBS News reports.

Even though the state of Louisiana has had several hurricanes, there’s no amount of preparations you can have that can prevent the damage natural disasters can cause. Hurricane Ida was the worst storm in New Orleans since Katrina, and we all know how hard it was for the state to recover from Katrina and we can only pray for them as they recover from Hurricane Ida.
