
With many new college students coming into the small town of Buckhannon, locally owned businesses get the opportunity to appeal to an entirely new genre of consumers. All students coming to Buckhannon for the first time may be searching for places to visit in their free time, and there are many small businesses run by West Virginia locals in their college town.
If a student is yearning for a place to eat with that signature coffee shop ambience, they could visit Stone Tower Brews, at 5 E Main St. Stone Tower is known for its extensive coffee menu, from hot cappuccinos to sweet blended iced lattes. For those 21 and over, they also sell many types of craft beer that can only be found in West Virginia. Their food menu includes many options such as their Southwest Salad, Breakfast Burrito, or even Vegetarian Tacos.
When wanting something to satisfy a sweet tooth, students can visit the Donut Shop located on 22 N Locust St. This bakery carries over 40 different flavors of donuts to appeal to a wide range of customers’ tastes with flavors such as Bavarian Cream, Toasted Coconut, or Peanut Butter and Jelly. The Donut Shop is open 24 hours a day, giving students the opportunity to snag a sweet treat even for those late night study sessions.
For those wanting some traditional bar and grill food, students can visit the Whistle Stop Cafe at 23 N Spring St. They serve classic American foods such as a platter of Cheddar Bacon Fries, Brisket Sandwich, or their signature Whistle Stop Special. On Tuesday, they hold Trashcan Tuesday where they create a new specialty drink at the bar every week.
