West Virginia Wesleyan College is one of twelve schools in the Mountain East Conference, and how well does it compete with the other eleven in academics? Wesleyan has always been a strong competitor with their fellow MEC schools and loves to show pride in their academic success for their students and student-athletes. The Mountain East Conference released their 2019 Fall Academic Awards, and West Virginia Wesleyan had the most student-athletes recognized out of the twelve member schools. In total, 126 Wesleyan student-athletes received an honor for their performance in the classroom this past Fall. Academic All-Conference is awarded to student-athletes who finish with a semester GPA 3.70 and above. Student-athletes that hold a GPA from 3.25-3.69 are placed on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll (Wesleyan, 2020). Let’s not stop there, the bobcats also lead the way spring of 2020 with a total of 142 total honorees on the All-MEC Academic teams and Commisioner’s Honor Roll (Wesleyan, 2020).

Moving forward Wesleyan was also the only West Virginia school listed among 200 colleges and universities across the country in Forbes “Grateful Grads 2018—200 Colleges with the Happiest, Most Successful Alumni. For the eighth consecutive year, Wesleyan had the highest state ranking in the Best Value category in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges. Wesleyan was listed as the 15th Best Value School in the South (Wesleyan, 2019). In comparison with Mountain East Conference schools WVWC seems to take the crown every year. The students and student athletes have separated themselves academically from their competitors, and the professors should feel a great sense of accomplishment.

In conclusion, West Virginia Wesleyan College is the top MEC school in academics the following few years. Wesleyan will continue to want to hold the spot as the best but it will not come easy as there are many other great schools in the Mountain east Conference. The students are statistically proving the effective education they are receiving along with the facilities teaching methods. You can never tell which competitor will make a run for the top in the future but as of right now West Virginia Wesleyan College is the king of the conference.
