As everyone comes back to our sweet town of Buckhannon you may be wondering what is open and, for the freshmen, maybe you don’t know the restaurants available. After living in Buckhannon for ten years, I have to say the place that has stood the test of time is CJ Maggies. CJ’s is a walkable distance from campus, has great tasting food…. and lots of it for an average price. Since Covid-19, CJ Maggies has their full menu available, from wraps to lasagna, and there will always be a table since they opened up the Opera house side. However, they are running low on staff so sometimes service does slow down. It’s a good thing that their drinks are twice as big!

Next on the list is Stone Tower, the college kids favorite! It has some menu options that are tasty from a Southwest salad to a scrambled egg bowl. Since Covid-19, many tables have been pushed outside and customers stand in a line for their food. The few times I have been in the restaurant, they were always past their occupancy number and people had to stand close together. Stone Tower does pick ups, you will still have to stand in line to pay. Therefore, to those trying to stay safe from the virus, this may not be the best option for you. If that doesn’t bother you though, Stone Tower is also a walkable distance from the college so grab some of your buddies and get an afternoon latte!
Las Trancas and Don Pacos, our mexican restaurants that are both so good but which one to choose…this is a forever divide for both students and townies (those who live in Buckhannon). There are those who believe one is better than the other but no worries, they both can cure the craving for some south of the border yumminess and are a walking distance from school. Both still have indoor seating and pick up options so no matter what you can feel safe from Covid-19 and enjoy a cheap meal where service is great.
Last, but not least is Alfredo’s which is Buckhannon’s Italian and Greek restaurant. Townies enjoy many pizzas from here and even though it is a short drive, they have the best Gyros around. This restaurant offers dine-in where service is decent, delivery, and takeout. Prices are average and overall it isn’t a bad place to take a group of friends who have different tastes and may enjoy variety.
